San Jose Storage Done Right
Organizing a storage unit is all about making your life easy. Write a quick list of what’s inside your unit so that you know what you put there in case you’re having trouble finding something. We also suggest these tips to make the most of your space:
-
1
Create a walkway
Just like your teens’ bedrooms, storage units can get a little cluttered. Be sure to leave yourself space to walk whenever you need to access your unit. That will make it easier to find the items you need without causing you to spend hours at the location.
-
2
Put bulky objects behind everything
These items (think: microwaves) can make it difficult to maneuver around and locate what you need. We recommend placing them at the back part of your storage unit so that they’re accessible but not in your way.
-
3
Put heavier items on the bottom
If you’re packing heavy items in boxes, place them at the very bottom. You can include lighter possessions on top so that they don’t get crushed. A heavier item could be considered something as simple as a photo album. You would want to put this item on the bottom of a box and add something small or breakable (e.g., ornaments) on top to keep all intact.
-
4
Include boxes inside large items
Have an old desk in your storage unit? You might have room at the bottom for a box or two. Take advantage of this unused space. It’ll free up room for other possessions and help your storage unit stay as clean and organized as possible.
-
5
Place important items toward the front
If you plan to access an item at your storage unit often (such as files), we recommend placing it somewhere close to the opening or off to the side. That will make it less of a headache as you look for the same item again and again.
